Disabled Guest

Mango defines disabled Guests to include those who have permanent but stable physical disabilities; i.e., paralysis of all or part of the body, mentally challenged, multiple sclerosis, hearing or vision impaired.

IS MEDICAL CLEARANCE REQUIRED FOR DISABLED GUESTS?

Disabled Guests do not require medical clearance from a doctor to travel with Mango.

They do, however, need to submit the Mango Medical Request Form to indicate what their condition or disability is when booking to travel on Mango.

These disabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Guests requiring a wheelchair
  • Vision impaired Guests
  • Hearing impaired Guests
  • Diabetic Guests—no complications
  • Paraplegics
  • Quadriplegics
  • Disabled by polio.

Disabled Guests may never be seated in the emergency rows, unless he/she is a stable diabetic. These Guests must report to the Mango check-in counters at least ninety (90) minutes prior to departure as Mango prefers to board these Guests first.

ABLE-BODIED ASSISTANT

An able-bodied assistant is any person older than 16 years who is not classified as a medically-compromised passenger.

These assistants are required to provide for the needs of the Guest they are assisting at all times. Mango is unable to provide assistants or related services to Guests with disabilities.

VISION IMPAIRED GUESTS

A vision impaired Guest is any person whose loss of sight cannot fully be corrected with glasses or contact lenses.

Vision impaired Guests do not need medical clearance to travel on board Mango aircraft. They must, however, indicate their disability when making their booking on the Medical Request Form. These Guests are not required to be accompanied by an able-bodied assistant.

GUIDE DOGS/SERVICE ANIMAL

A service animal is defined as any guide dog or signal dog individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability.

Vision impaired Guests can travel with a guide dog if the booking is endorsed accordingly. Guide dogs or a service animal travel free of charge and may be carried in the cabin of the aircraft, but we do require that the dog is securely harnessed. A lead and collar are not considered acceptable harnessing.

Mango reserves the right to request proof that the Guest is dependent upon the guide dog or service dog. Mango only allows dogs as service animals to travel in the cabin.

Please note that a Guest must contact Mango's Medical Reservation Department to advise them that they require the assistance of a guide dog when travelling with Mango. Please call 086 10 10 214 to be cleared to travel.

PARAPLEGICS

The term paraplegia means paralysis of the legs and lower body. Paraplegic Guests are always wheelchair-bound and are classified as WCHC Guests.

Paraplegic Guests who require assistance (cannot see to their own needs) must always be accompanied by an able-bodied assistant, who must be seated next to the disabled Guest at all times.

These Guests must be seated—in order of priority—in row 1 (E, F, B) and (A) on Mango flights, but assistants may be seated in row 1 (C) and (D).

Please note that paraplegic Guests are required to submit the Medical Request Form.

QUADRIPLEGICS

The term quadriplegia means paralysis of all four limbs.

Quadriplegic Guests must always be accompanied by an able-bodied assistant, who must be seated next to the disabled Guest at all times.

Quadriplegic Guests must be seated—in order of priority—in row 1 (E, F, B) and (A) on Mango flights, but assistants may be seated in row 1 (C) and (D).

Please note that quadriplegic Guests are required to submit the Medical Required Form.

GUESTS DISABLED BY POLIO

The terms poliomyelitis means an infectious viral disease that affects the central nervous system and can cause temporary or permanent paralysis.

These Guests do not require medical clearance from a doctor to travel provided that they are able to attend to their own needs on board the aircraft.

They must, however, still submit the Medical Request Form to indicate what their condition or disability is. This information should be provided when making a booking to travel on Mango, or at least 48 hours prior to the planned flight.

Guests who are severely disabled by polio must travel with an able-bodied assistant.

MENTALLY DISABLED GUESTS

Ascertaining whether a Guest is fit to fly with Mango.

A mentally disabled person shall not be allowed on board a Mango aircraft unless:

  • Accompanied by an able-bodied assistant
  • A medical certificate has been issued by a medical practitioner certifying the Guest’s suitability for  carriage by air, and confirming that the Guest poses no threat to other Guests on board the Mango flight.

Full medical details as per the Medical Request Form will need to be completed by the Guest's doctor and forwarded to Mango for clearance at least 48 hours prior to the planned flight.

HEARING IMPAIRED GUESTS

A hearing impaired Guest is any person who is hard of hearing or has no hearing.

Hearing impaired Guests do not require medical clearance to travel on board a Mango aircraft. They must, however, indicate their disability when making their booking on the Medical Request Form, and they are not required to be accompanied by an able-bodied assistant.

DIABETIC GUESTS

Diabetic Guests do not require medical clearance to travel on board Mango unless they suffer from complications.

In this instance, full medical details as per the Medical Request Form will need to be completed by the Guest's doctor and forwarded to Mango for clearance at least 48 hours prior to the planned flight.

Mango is unable to make special meals available for diabetic Guests, but these Guests are welcome to make alternative food and beverage arrangements if required.

It is advisable that Guests carry their medication in the baggage compartment of the aircraft’s cabin. If the medication is placed in the checked baggage and loaded into the aircraft hold the insulin will freeze.

Mango imposes no restrictions on the seating of diabetic Guests unless they suffer from complications.
