Opt for something unusual to get your heart racing
For something a little different, swap your formal wear with activewear and hit the road. The Hot 91.9FM Valentine’s Night Race in Randburg is a 10km race with a romantic twist: live music en route and a “candle-lit mile”. At the finish line, there will be a post-race party with big prizes up for grabs for the best dressed.
The Run Zone Valentine’s Lazer Light Trail Run at Randpark Golf Club promises to be another fun event. There are 8km and 5km options, and both runners and walkers are invited to join in. The trail is lit up by laser lights and prizes will also be awarded for the best-dressed runners.
Cuddle up at an outdoor cinema
Instead of sitting in a stuffy movie theatre, snuggle up to your loved one on a beautifully manicured lawn watching a classic romantic movie.
Trés Jolie country estate in Ruimsig will be screening the time-travel fantasy About Time in its garden under the stars the day after Valentine’s Day. Bring pillows and blankets for complete comfort. The full restaurant menu will also be available to enjoy in the picnic setting.
On Saturday 16 February, Riversands Farm Village in Fourways will host Valentine’s Movies in the Park, a marathon outdoor event where four movies will be screened successively from 2.30pm to late at night. There will be food vendors, a bar, and activities for kids.
Fly solo if you’re single and ready to mingle
Not everyone has a Valentine, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the festivities.
