October 29, 2018

Toast the end of the day in style with a cocktail in your hand as you enjoy the sunset over the City of Gold. From beautiful views of the city to trendy boutique bars, we’ve got you covered when it comes to cocktails:

Enjoy old favourites with an Asian twist at Saigon Suzy

Saigon Suzy is one of Joburg’s coolest hangouts with its wall murals, elaborate food menu featuring delicious South Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai cuisine, and, of course, its decadent cocktails.

Try the Hanoi Hannah, crafted with Bombay Sapphire gin, sake, yuzu, pineapple and vanilla slushy for a refreshing treat. The Sour Suzy Says with 12-year old whisky, yuzu and jasmine tea is perfect if you’re in the mood for a fun take on an old flavour.

The best part? Each of the cocktails can be transformed into non-alcoholic mocktails!

Hang back with a classic at Blind Tiger Cafe

Step back into 1920s glam at an American-inspired speakeasy, Blind Tiger Cafe. Self-described neighborhood cafe Blind Tiger offers comfort food at its best with classic cocktails done right in a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Pair the dramatic 1920s decor with The Great Gatsby cocktail, made with Inverroche gin, elderflower cordial and sour mix, topped with tonic and a maraschino cherry.

Make your own at Al Lado

Devour tasty tapas alongside delectable cocktails at Al Lado. This cocktail bar prides itself on using only hand-picked, organic fruits, herbs and spices from local markets – and the proof is in the cocktail!

There are three cocktail menus: Twisted Classics for a new take on old favourites; Whiskey Rebellions for malt lovers; and Barsmith Picks if you’d like to put your trust in the mixologists.

If you’re feeling in the mood for a very specific flavour, design your own! The mixologists are on hand to advise, making sure your brew tastes as good as it does in your imagination.

Gaze over Joburg with a drink in hand at Marble

Stylish, lavish and decadent are words that aptly describe Marble – and that doesn’t even take into account  the incredible view of the Joburg skyline! Enjoy a long, lazy dinner with fine-dining cuisine from the restaurant, or stay at the bar area for delicious mini-bites alongside your cocktail.

Try the Rosa Boulevard with Woodford Reserve, smoked pineapple juice, white pepper-infused almond syrup and rooibos-infused extra dry vermouth, which is perfect for watching the sunset. You can also try The Maiden, crafted with Singleton whiskey, lemon juice, mango syrup, mango puree, ginger, sea salt, orange and vanilla bitters, and a splash of San Leo Prosecco, for a late-night treat.

Where to find it: 19 Keyes Avenue, Rosebank

Prepare to be surprised at Sin+Tax

Sin+Tax is the ultimate Joburg hipster bar. Even getting here is an experience, with the entrance being an alleyway with no signage. But the cocktails are nothing short of divine.

Sin+Tax offers two menus, The House of Classics and a seasonal signature menu that is tied together with an overarching theme.

Julian Short, the 2017 Diageo World-Class Bartender of the Year South Africa winner, is the brainchild behind Sin+Tax’s creations. So although some creations may seem a bit strange, sit back and enjoy a taste experience at Sin+Tax – you’re in very good hands!
