Published Sunday, March 22, 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the airline industry globally which has resulted in Governments announcing travel bans.

The Tanzanian Government has stopped all flights to Zanzibar (ZNZ) as protective measures against the COVID-19 global pandemic with immediate effect. Due to the travel restrictions, all scheduled flights operated by Mango airlines between Johannesburg to Zanzibar have been cancelled until further notice.

Furthermore, in an aim of assisting with the repatriation of South African citizens from Zanzibar, Mango airlines will operate to ZNZ on Tuesday 24 March 2020 to collect guests and ensure their safe return home. The statement released by Zanzibar authorities is a follows:

  • All international arriving non-resident passengers and any other nationals without valid residence permits will be allowed to enter Zanzibar provided they proceed to quarantine as designated by Zanzibar Government.

  • Disembarked Pilots and cabin crew changes will be quarantined at the airlines designated hotel.

  • It is to be noted also that all arriving Tanzanian citizens and any other nationals with valid residence permits will have the option to either proceed on quarantine as designated by Government or be served with a stay notice (self-quarantine) where they will be required to remain in their place of residence at all times for two weeks after arriving.

  • All costs associated with any form of quarantine, be it forced or self-quarantine, will be for the customer’s account.

  • Mr Seif A. Juma, acting Director General of Zanzibar Airports Authority indicated that customers will be required to complete health forms on-board the aircraft before disembarking.

For passengers, we ask that you stay alert, wash your hands thoroughly, know the health status of those around you, and most importantly, don’t panic.
